East Slope

The Eastern Slope of Scenic Byway 143 is where the Patchwork Parkway name is derived. Intrepid settlers of the town of Panguitch were the instigators of the now famous Quilt Walk in the winter of 1864.   Read more about the Quilt Walk here.

Lava fields coat the upper eastern slope and give way to forests and meadows as the road descends toward the Panguitch, Utah.

Panguitch Lake is found on the rim of the descent of the eastern slope and Panguitch Creek winds its' way down this slope toward the town of Panguitch. Panguitch Lake is known for its excellent fishing in summer and winter, and for the scenic surroundings. Private cabins and a few cabins for rent are found here, along with some retails operations for groceries and fishing services.

The community of Panguitch sits at the base of the slope where farms and homes spread across a large valley. Scenic Byway 12 begins just seven miles to the southeast of Panguitch, Utah, and Bryce Canyon National Park is found another 15 minutes up Scenicy Byway 12.
